TCP/IP Model - 4 or 5 Layer? - Cisco Learning Network
Hi, Everything I've read up until now has suggested that the TCP/IP model consists of 4 layers - and I've been happy with that, until today, when I signed up for a trial period with AlphaPrep... and they're saying that the "current" version has 5 layers. Huh? So watching the vid on the TCP/IP model, the presenter goes on to say that some literature out there refers to a 4 layer model, while ...

OSI Model Vs TCP/IP Model - Cisco Learning Network
Hi Karishma, Believe it or not, BOTH models are used all the time in networking. It is not uncommon for people new to networking to ask this question, and I used to wonder about this myself. The OSI model may seem irrelevant to newcomers since TCP/IP is the actual model that TCP/IP networks are based upon, however, the OSI model is a very important framework and learning tool for learning ...

How many layers are there in the TCP/IP model?
Hello Safraz, You and the study guide are correct. The original TCP/IP model had 4 layers, the updated model has 5. See the diagram below for how the old and new layers relate (The new TCP model is on the right). The reason for the update is because originally Ethernet over copper cable was the only mainstream standard for OSI layers 1 and 2, so from the perspective of the TCP model, it could ...

Why is TCP/IP used rather than OSI? - Cisco Learning Network
Hi MikeH, I think OSI is much more of theoretical, which TCP/IP were based. As far as i can remember, one advantage of TCP/IP is that it is more simpler (4 layers, i've read before on the OCG that there is a hybrid TCP/IP, 5 Layers) to implement and standardized (already defined by RFC1122 even before the OSI). It is the "de facto" for most networks.

TCP/IP vs Netbios - Cisco Learning Network
Irshad schrieb: Nowadays we are using TCP/IP but I have also seen Netbios as well so want to understand why we are still using Netbios . Earlier every vendor used their own protocol like Appletalk by Apple, IPx by Novel, Netbios by Microsoft. NetBIOS can be run on top of TCP/IP (thats, what is still in use nowadays, because some devices still use it) or directly on top of ethernet (know as ...

How many TCP/IP layer are there now? before there are four layer but ...
"The model on the left, the original TCP/IP model, breaks TCP/IP into four layers. The top layers focus more on the applications that need to send and receive data, whereas the lower layers focus more on the need to somehow transmit the bits from one device to another. The model on the right is a newer version of the model, formed by expanding the network access layer on the left into two ...

Which layer of the OSI model do SSL and TLS belong to?
Imagine that you are accessing a secure web page, you immediately notice that you are using HTTPS (HTTP is an application layer protocol) ( which uses TCP port 443 at the transport layer). But, if i am not mistaken, HTTPS runs over a Secure Sockets Layer or Transport Layer Security (SSL or TSL) tunnel, now regarding these two (SSL and TLS) i am not quite sure at which layer of the OSI model ...

CCNA - Cisco Learning Network
CCNA Certification and Training Achieving CCNA certification is the first step in preparing for a career in IT technologies. To earn CCNA certification, you pass one exam that covers a broad range of fundamentals for IT careers, based on the latest networking technologies, security, and automation and programmability skills and job roles. CCNA gives you the foundation you need to take your ...

TCP/IP vs OSI - Cisco Learning Network
This is a bit confusing. So TCP/IP and OSI both refer to reference models and protocol stacks. Most people are pretty familiar with TCP/IP protocols. The OSI protocol stack includes things like CLNS, CLNP, X25, etc. TCP/IP as a protocol stack is everywhere. OSI as a protocol stack is deprecated.
